In an era of constant change, where tried-and-true business methods can leave a company gasping in the vapor trails of its competitors, “the arts” can help business people reframe their environments, see things anew, increase discovery and thereby improve business results. But it is not really the arts and their unique way to inspire and engage that are necessary, it is the aesthetic approach to observing and thinking that the artistic process helps develop.

The need for a new approach arises, in part, because of the similarity in training that today’s leaders have experienced. A successful arts-based intervention like ArtWorks encourages participants to let the arts directly and indirectly influence their day-to-day activity. ArtWorks has important business goals, even though participants may view the activity as pure pleasure. It engages, inspires and energizes the team while the business goals focus on mindsets, behaviours and communicationimproving the quality of thinking and decision-making that leads to success in business.

It doesn’t teach anyone to be an artist but recognizes an individual’s need to be creative, to be aware of behaviours and their effect on colleagues. It teaches that it’s OK to think differently, in fresh ways, seeing new opportunities, new ways of doing things—which is the heart of entrepreneurial leadership.

The creativity stream builds camaraderie and establishes important principles that will continue to be developed when back in the workplace. Teamwork requires an understanding and acceptance of coworkers. During the workshop they will learn more about their colleagues. Because painting is a subject matter so far from business, they learn about depths and sides of their team-mates that they would never see in regular class work.

Sensitivity to the expectations of business and of the creative industries is essential, that’s why it is important for the artist to speak the language of business and understand the different attitudes. With his extensive experience as a manager of large teams in the hospitality sector, Hervé understands both the sensibilities of the arts and business sides.

a successful concept

ArtWorks is everything but a classroom session. Its 6 exercises provide creative forums to work on trust, effective communication and teamwork. They involve cooperation, shared leadership roles and collective responsibility, during which team members have the opportunity to experience the creative process and work together toward a common goal: producing a work of art which will be later exhibited in the workplace.

Whether it is a group of individuals who have never met before, re-energising an existing team or stimulating a cross-functional team approach, the transformational process of ArtWorks unites and inspires participants rapidly to become more effective as a team—more creative, more productive, more successful.

The outcome will exceed both your business objectives and expectations, whilst providing a great return on investment and making of the final artwork, a visual contribution to the workplace. Long after the actual performances, your people will continue to experience new ways of working together.
